Honshu is the largest islands of
Japan thus also called the Main Island.
It is lying south of
Hokkaido (connected to it by the Seikan Tunnel),
north of
Shikoku across the Inland Sea, and northeast of
Kyushu across the Kanmon Strait.
A mountain range runs along the length of Honshu from end to end. The Japanese Alps is a part of these ranges at the center of the island.
The highest peak is the active volcano
Mount Fuji reaching 3776 meters above sea level.
Honshu's largest city is the capital
Tokyo, other cities on the island include
Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya, Kobe, Kyoto, Akita, Sendai, Fukushima, Nagano and Hiroshima.
