Shikoku is the smallest and least populuos of the four major islands of
Japan.
Mountains running east and west split Shikoku into a narrow northern subregion, fronting on the
Inland Sea, and a southern part facing the Pacific Ocean.
Mt Ishizuchi is the highest mountain on the island rising to 1981 meters above sea level.
Major cities in Shikoku include:
Takamatsu, Tokushima, Muroto,
Kochi, Susaki, Tosashimizu, Uwajima, Matsuyama and Imabari.
Surrounding islands are Hoyo Islands, Geiyo Islands, Innoshima Islands and Awaji Island, all located in the Inland Sea between
Honshu and Shikoku.
