The
Republic of Azerbaijan is located South Western
Asia. The territory includes the enclave of the Naxcivan Autonomous Republic which is divided from the larger part of Azerbaijan ("Azerbaijan-proper") by a region of
Armenia.
Except for its eastern Caspian shoreline and some areas bordering Georgia and
Iran, Azerbaijan is
ringed by mountains.
The
highest elevations occur in the Greater Caucasus, where Mount Bazar-dyuzi rises 4,740 meters above sea level.
Baku is the capital city. The main rivers are the
Kur and
Aras.
