Southwestern United States is a region of the United States, often referred to simply as the Southwest, that is located in the southwestern corner of the country as the name suggests, on the Pacific coast, north of Mexico.
The region comprises of the states of California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.
The region is characterized mainly by the mountain ranges of the Rocky Mountains, the Sierra Nevada and the Wasatch Range, the plateaus among them, for example the Colorado Plateau or the Great Basin in Nevada.
