Chechnya is a disputed territory located on the northern slopes of the Caucasian Mountain ranges. It is also called the Chechen Republic. It is generally considered to be part of the Russian Federation.

The Chechen Republic is located in Southern Russia, it is bordered by Georgia on the south, Dagestan on the east and north, and Ingushetia on the west.
What are the physical features of the Chechen Republic?
Chechnya can be divided into two main regions. The northern part is an alluvial plain, part of the Caspian Depression. The Terek River flows through this region before emptying into Caspian Sea. The southern part of Chechnya is occupied by the Eastern Caucasus Mountains, reaching heights above 4,000 meters above sea level.
