The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important straits in today's world. It connects the oil fields of the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, granting entrance to the world oceans. The strait is bordered by Iran on the North, while the southern side is guarded by the Musandam Peninsula of Oman and the Emirates. Roughly 30% of the world's oil transport passes through this narrow strait in huge tankers, giving the Strait a leading strategic importance in worldwide trade.
