The terrain is mostly flat plain land with the Sahara Desert in the north.
Hombori Tondo is the country's highest point at 1155 meters above sea level.
The capital city is Bamako. Other important cities are Segou, Mopti, Timbuktu, Sikasso and Kayes.
Major rivers are the Niger and Bani.
