South Sudan is lying in central eastern Africa, located south of Sudan, north of Uganda and Kenya, west of Ethiopia, east of the Central African Republic. South Sudan is one of the world's newest countries, having gained independence in 2011 from Sudan.

The capital and largest city of the country is Juba, with around 150 000 inhabitants.
