Information about the geography of West Virginia
West Virginia is a landlocked state in the United States of America, enclosed by Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio, located in the eastern, Appalachian regions of the country.
Most of the state is mountainous, the Cumberland Plateau and Allegheny Plateau occupying most of its territory. The average height drops towards the northwest, where the Ohio river forms the border of the state. Highest peak is Spruce Knob at 1482 meters (4,863 feet) above sea level.
