The state of Ohio is located in the northeastern central regions of the United States, south of Lake Erie, between the states of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan. The Ohio river runs by the southern border of the state.
Most of the states landforms consist of hilly regions of the Appalachian Plateau and the Allegheny Plateau on the south and eastern sides of the state's territory, while the Central Lowland occupies the majority of the northwestern parts. Highest point is Campbell Hill at 472 meters, lying in the west central part of the state, northwest of the capital Columbus.
