The Banda Sea is a relatively smaller sea belonging to the Pacific Ocean. It is surrounded by several hundreds of bigger and smaller islands of the country of Indonesia. It lies south of the Ceram Sea and Seram Island, and to the north of the Timor Sea and the island of Timor. The island of Sulawesi (formerly called Celebes) is located to the west of the Banda Sea, while the world's second largest island, New Guinea lies at the eastern coast of the Banda Sea.
