Information about the geography of Guatemala
Guatemala is crossed by two mountain systems. The Sierra Madres includes over 30 volcanoes, and some are still active. Volcan Tajumulco is the highest point in Central America.
The terrain is mountainous with narrow coastal plains and limestone plateau. Rivers include the Motagua and the Rio Negro. All of the major cities are situated in the southern half of the country; the major cities are the capital Guatemala City, Quetzaltenango and Escuintla.
