Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, belonging to the state of Italy as an autonomous region. It lies directly beneath the island of Corsica, between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Balearic Sea. Its coastline stretches for 1200 miles, with alternating sandy beaches and steep rocks. Sardinia is an ideal destination for those looking for relaxation or recreation. Thousands year old culture, hospitable tradition, crystal clear sea, white and pink sandy beaches wait for the visitors here.
The island is mainly characterized by the continuous and unspoilt natural environment: vast neglected shorelines, wild small islands, forests and hills everywhere.
The capital and main city is Cagliari, which is also the most visited place on the island for tourists. It is situated on the southern edge of the island, in the center of the Gulf of Angels (Golfo degli Angeli). The city is surrounded by hills and mountains on the east and west, while the Campidano plains stretch in the northern direction.
