Marche is a region in the central part of Italy, stretching on the shores of the Adriatic Sea.
Its capital is Ancona, other cities include Urbino, Pesaro, Fano, Macerata, Civitanova Marche and Ascoli-Piceno.
Marche is bordered by
Abruzzo on the south,
Umbria and Tuscany on the west,
Emilia-Romagna on the north and
the Adriatic Sea on the eastern coast.
Marche also have a short boundary with the Republic of San Marino.
The ranges of Apennine mountain chain mark the border on the west (Appennino Umbro-Marchigiano) with Umbria.
The highest peak of Marche is Mount Vettore at 2476 meters above sea level, rising in the southern part of the region in the Monti Sibillini range.
Important rivers are Foglia, Metauro, Esino, Potenza and Chienti.
