The Falkland Islands are located in the Southern Atlantic Ocean, in the vicinity of the Argentinian coast.
It consist of two larger (East Falkland and West Falkland) islands, and several hundreds of smaller ones.
It is a self-governing British Overseas Territory. The capital city is Stanley.
East Falkland is divided into two smaller peninsulas, which are connected by an isthmus. The southern peninsula is called Lafonia. The northern part is the site of the highest mountain range on the island, Wickham Heights, the highest point is Mount Usborne just above 700 meters.
East Falkland is separated from West Falkland by the Falkland Sound, which is a narrow body of water running in approximately southwest-northeast direction between the the two main islands. The most notable mountain range on the western island is the Hornby Hills, which runs more or less parallel to the Falkland Sound coast.
