The northern countries of Europe: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. (sometimes the United Kingdom is also considered as part of Northern Europe).
The nordic countries share strong common historic and cultural backgrounds. Due to the developed economy, the standard of living is high in the region.
Geography: the region contains the Jylland Peninsula, the Scandinavian Peninsula, the Finnish Lakeland, and the island of Iceland. The climate is rather cold, as the region stretches above the Arctic circle. Due to the peninsulas, the rivers here are short, but they carry much water due to the high amount of precipitation.
