Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a region in the Northeastern part of Italy, and one of 5 Autonomous regions with special statute. Trieste is the capital of the region, which is divided into the provinces of Gorizia, Pordenone, Trieste and Udine (named for their principal cities).
Friuli-Venezia Giulia lies between the Adriatic Sea and the ranges of the Alps (Prealpi Carniche, Carnic Alps, Julian Alps). Highest peak is the Monte Coglians reaching the hieght of 2780 meters above sea level. Major rivers are the Tagliamento and Isonzo.
