Information about the geography of Taiwan
Taiwan: The terrain in Taiwan is divided into two parts: the flat to gently rolling plains in the west, where 90 % of the population lives, and the mostly rugged forest-covered mountains in the eastern two-thirds.
Taiwan is dominated by the Central Range of mountains (Chungyang Shan) which run north to south. The highest point at 3997 meters above sea level is Yü-shan in the Yü-shan Mountains (Jade Mountains), on the southwest side of the Chung-yang Shan.
The capital city of Taiwan is Taipei. Kaohsiung is the second largest city, the island's most important port and one of the biggest container ports in the world.
