The Republic of
Malawi lies in South Africa, traversed by the
Great Rift Valley from north to south. In this deep trough lies
Lake Malawi , the third-largest lake in Africa, which is drained by the Shire River, a tributary of the Zambezi.
The capital is
Lilongwe. Blantyre, the largest city, is an important commercial and industrial centre.
Other important cities are Chipata and Karonga.
Highest peak is the
Mt Mulanje reaching 3000 meters above sea level.
